Rhythm of Life

Lenka

Lenka is a solo artist born in 1978 in New South Whales, Australia. She grew up in Sydney, but she says she is still very attached to her hometown. Lenka’s birth name is Lenka Kripac. Her parents were hippies, and she obviously inherited their easy-going lifestyle. When she grew up she was a teen actress – she even trained with Cate Blanchett, then she joined a band called Decoder Ring, and eventually became a solo artist. In 2007 she moved to Los Angeles seeking fame and fortune, like many others. Her first album is titled Lenka, and was
released September 23, 2008 in the USA. Her most famous song is titled The Show, which has been used for numerous television commercials, including one for Old Navy. Lenka’s songs have topped many charts, and on the American Billboard 200, her album reached 147th. Today she still lives in Los Angeles, and unlike many others, she actually achieved her dream of becoming famous. Lenka has toured all over the world, including tours in Asia, North America, Europe and of course Australia.

Lenka’s music classifies as Pop, with some World Music influences. I really enjoy listening to it because it sounds unusual - in a good way. All her songs sound fresh, and they always have a happy vibe to them. Lenka’s music expresses a wide variety of feelings, ranging from sadness to joy to hopelessness, never the less her songs always manage to make your day just a little brighter.

This is the video of Lenka’s song, The Show. It’s not my favorite piece from Lenka, but I really enjoyed the music video because it mixes real life with a hint of magic. She is really confused in the beginning of the video, but by the end she is used to the odd happenings and just goes along with the flow. I like how it really emphasizes that difference. I have a feeling Lenka meant to symbolize a bigger picture with her video, and she lets you to decide what that bigger picture is.

Subway Station Sued

A subway station in central LA was sued for murder. It is the first time in history that a public place is being sued. The family of Janet Spear is suing the station for murder, because Janet was killed by a train on the platform late last January. Supposedly the reason for her death was the billboard across the tracks that read, “Come A Little Closer”. The Spear family is refusing to sue the company whose billboard it is, because it is a funeral company. It also happens to be the company they employed for Janet’s funeral. Curious about the court case? It is scheduled for May 3, 2010. The image above is the location of Janet Spear's death.

The Tell-Tale Heart

I enjoyed the third video the most, because it was really comical. Video number one and number two were both designed to frighten people, but the third video was meant to make people laugh. I really liked how that video was able to make a terrifying story seem funny. Because of how the puppet expressed itself, the story suddenly seemed very light. In addition to that, because the puppet spoke so quickly, it didn't give you enough time to think about the frightening aspects too thoroughly. The third video was my favorite one, because it was really amusing.

The first video gives so much information about the story, that it makes you think you've already read it. It starts out at the beginning, and then quickly, but thoroughly works its way to the end of the story. With a dark feel and good music to accompany it, it captures the creepy feel of the poem. Even though the second video also gave some information about the story, it started when the old man had already been killed. So, someone who hadn't read the poem before wouldn't know why or how the madman killed his victim. The first video would definitely give a reader the most information about the real story.
